Vaginal Botox Therapy for Vaginismus: A Real Patient Story from my clinic in Calicut.

An emotionally distressed couple experiencing infertility, anxiety and vaginismus consulting in a fertility clinic in calicut

A Couple once came to my OPD seeking help for infertility. They had been married for five years and wanted to evaluate their fertility status after years of trying to conceive.

I advised some basic investigations and asked them to return with the reports.

On their second visit, the reports were reassuring. The next step was a scan. But the moment I suggested an internal examination, she became visibly anxious and immediately refused.

And that is when the real story slowly began to unfold.

Behind the label of “Infertility” was years of silent trauma.

A history of childhood sexual abuse.

Fear. Shame. Anxiety. A body that had learned to protect itself for survival.

What initially appeared medically as vaginismus was actually much deeper than “just inability to have intercourse.” It was trauma living inside the body.

As doctors, we often think we are treating infertility, painful intercourse, low desire, or sexual dysfunction. But many times, we are actually treating unspoken stories — stories women have carried alone for years.

Healing in such cases never begins with “just relax.”

It begins with safety.

With trust.

With patience.

With allowing the patient to move at her own pace.

In her case, progress happened gradually through counselling, pelvic relaxation exercises, emotional reassurance, and Vaginal Botox therapy as part of her treatment journey.

And then came the most beautiful moment.

Three months later, this couple walked into my clinic in Calicut— this time carrying a box of chocolates and a positive pregnancy test.

That moment truly made my day. ❤️

Not every woman who avoids an examination is being “difficult.”

Sometimes, her body remembers what her mind has tried very hard to forget.

And sometimes, healing begins only when someone finally feels safe enough to be heard. 🌸

Excellent article. The way complex medical information was simplified is truly appreciated.
